Highlights – December 2011 edition

It’s the end of the month – time to take a look at what next month has to offer. Now, it is December, and while the Christmas season is always prime time to release a game, very few games actually come out in December. So we’re looking at a quiet month here, but there’re still a few interesting releases.

December 4th

Mario Kart 7(Nintendo 3DS) – Another console, another Mario Kart. One of the ‘system seller’ titles for the 3DS, and one that will certainly make me interested in getting my hands on one.

December 6th

Trine 2 – This downloadable platformer is coming out for pretty much all major platforms, and is certainly one to watch. I’ve liked multi-character platformers since Lost Vikings decades ago, so I am absolutely excited for this one.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Game – I’m not sure what to think of this one. Tintin certainly holds a special place in my heart alongside Babar and all of the other oddly repetitive named characters from my childhood – but I’m just not sure how Tintin will work as a game. That being said, it is certainly intriguing and I wish it the best!

December 20

Star Wars: The Old Republic – The latest in a long line of ‘WoW-killer’ MMORPGs, The Old Republic attempts to combine a real, meaningful story with choice and the typical Star Wars morality into the standard MMO style of gameplay. Will it work? Only time will tell, but even if my hopes are not terribly high, I’m certainly excited to see how this all falls out.

That’s basically it for new games, we also have a couple of releases on new platforms, such as Assassin’s Creed Revelations and Rocksmith coming to your Windows PCs on the 2nd and and the 13th respectively.
