TGR-Net Top 5 – Overlooked Awesome Games of 2011

Well since we’re into a new year here, let’s take a look back at the 5 best games that got the least attention of last year!

#5 – El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron

This game wasn’t quite as overlooked as some of the others due to its unbelievable art style… but it still didn’t get nearly as much coverage as it deserved. A fantastic 1-button combat system that actually worked combined with some of the most trippy and unique environments in gaming history made for a really fun action adventure game that is worth giving a try.

#4) Record of Agarest War Zero

This Japanese SRPG featured some of the most thought-intensive and strategic combat in the genre’s history, requiring some turns to be planned out for minutes before engaging in order to maximize combos and attack placement. If you want something with an interesting story, near-unlimited replayability, and an incredibly deep, thoughtful, intelligent, and rewarding combat system – look no further.

#3) Sonic Generations

Sonic games tend to get overlooked due to the last several ones being pretty bad… but not Generations. Generations is a good, solid return to form for Sonic.

#2) Catherine

Catherine is a game with an incredibly deep story – a story that will surprise you right through to the end. But more than that even, the puzzle-oriented gameplay will keep you on your feet, keep you thinking, and keep you entertained. Incredibly unique and fun puzzle game.

#1) The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

This fantastic JRPG got almost completely overlooked – even by me – yet it is absolutely worthy of exceptional praise. One of the best JRPGs of the past decade, possibly of all time – The Legend of Heroes is a game you should absolutely be giving your time.
