The next event that we’ll be attending will be Shy-con, which will be happening at the Delta Hotel on September 28-30.
Shy-Con is a small convention dedicated to retro anime and cartoons. Shows like He-Man, Sailor Moon, Transformers, Samurai Pizza Cats, and all the other fantastic gems that those of my generation grew up with in the 80s and 90s. This is their first year running, but it is being run by the same people who are responsible for the long running and successful Central Canada Comic Con, so expectations are high. Their guest for this year is Allen Oppenheimer, a voice most of us should remember from our childhoods; as he played Skeletor from He-Man, Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon, Warpath in Transformers, and many others.
In addition to the guest’s presence, there will also be an arcade room, viewing rooms showing classic cartoons, a social on Saturday night, a vendor/artist room, and more. Probably the most unique aspect is that, like Ai-Kon, the event runs 24/7, but unlike Ai-Kon after 10PM the event switches gears and becomes for adults only. I’m intrigued to see what they actually use this 18+ time for, but only time will tell!
If you want to check out more about Shy-Con, their website is http://www.shyconwinnipeg.com/ but unfortunately no admissions information is available yet. Once I find out details about admissions, I’ll make a small post and update this post with that information.
Admissions are now open! Prior to September 1st weekend passes are 25 dollars, after that it will be 35 dollars for a weekend pass or 15 dollars for a single day pass. They also offer a 10 dollar social ticket if you just want to attend the Saturday evening social.
