Ai-Kon’s committee are giving the Portage Place I-Max a going-away party on March 17th(the I-Max will sadly be closing on the 31st of March, only one day after my birthday(sadface)). And how does an Anime convention bid proper farewell to such a long-standing icon as the Portage Place I-Max, you ask? Simple, with a virtual pop star concert event. They have procured through unknown methods(that quite possibly do not bear mentioning… but are probably completely harmless) the 2012 Hatsune Miku Concert footage and will be showing it off on the I-Max screen(since we aren’t properly equipped for a hologram performance, of course).
That’s right, not only do you get to bid farewell to a place that has been with us for as long as I can remember, you get to do it in true anime style. So whether you’ve just always been curious what this whole ‘virtual popstar’ thing is about, or whether you just like Japanese pop and want to have one last hoorah with our old friend the Portage Place I-Max… I hope you join me at this Ai-Kon special event at Winnipeg’s Portage Place I-Max at 7PM on March 17th. I’ll be there to watch and enjoy, and also to take in whatever cosplay happens to show up(if there’s much, you can expect pictures!).
