It’s been a while since I’ve had a good chance to go out and just play around with one of my favourite toys… my camera! But this past weekend I made my way down to Assiniboine Park(for those non-Winnipeg folk, it’s a very large park in Winnipeg, complete with several different gardens, a number of open areas, a restaurant, and even a zoo) and spent some time in the English Garden there trying to find the perfect shots. And after a few hours, I have a wealth of photographic beauty to share with you… you can check it out in my new Park 1 Gallery.
Just to pique your interest though… I thought I’d share a few of my favourites from this new gallery.
It can be really hard to pick favourites from among your own pictures… you’re either being incredibly critical of what you could’ve done just the slightest bit better or you’re torn between whether the lighting on that one makes it better than the detail on that one or whether the contrast in that one is just that little bit better. But when taking these pictures there were a few that just turned out exactly how I was hoping. So without further delay… let’s get started.
First off is a tranquil little scene that reminded me of nothing more than a fairy tale. The cottage at the end of the wooded path… I was originally just aiming for a nice picture of the tree, but then when I found this angle I realized that it was so much more than just a picture of a tree.
I didn’t expect the floral closeups to turn out all that well since I don’t have a proper macro lens and was just using my 75-300 from 2 feet away – not ideal for it. Today, at least, it just worked. This rose can be seen in all it’s glorious detail… from the thorns to each individual petal. It’s a great start for me into the world of macro photography, and I hope you like it.
Later on in the day, I managed to get on a squirrel’s bad side… and when I finally tracked him down, he wasn’t happy with me. If this look doesn’t strike fear into the hearts of the masses, I don’t know what will.
I had a blast taking these, so I hope you enjoy them! And if you’re new around here, there’re several other galleries you can take a look at by clicking on the link up at the top of every page.
