Weekly Recommendations – Relationships

As some of you may know, tomorrow is my anniversary – as of tomorrow my wife and I will have been together for 8 years. So in honour of this very important day, I wanted to focus this week’s recommendations on games, books, and anime with a central focus of relationships or romance. I’m not going to say that all of these will offer GOOD advice on the subject, just that they’ll be on that subject.

The World is Still Beautiful (Anime)

The World is Still Beautiful is one of the few genuine romance anime I’ve watched, and it is an absolute treat. With incredible music, deep characters, and a really interesting story in a unique fantasy world – it is one I would recommend even to those of you out there who, like me, are not typically the ‘romance movie’ type.

Persona 4: The Golden (Game)

Ah, young love. Persona 4: The Golden is one of the best JRPGs I’ve played in my life, up there in the same category as the early Final Fantasy games and Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. It has a very anime-like story line, but half of the story’s focus is on building relationships with the other characters – both friendly and otherwise. And unlike most of the games of this type, it even punishes you in a very emotional way for having more than one romantic relationship going!

Catherine (Video Game)

Catherine’s story is about a man who is in a serious relationship but is afraid of things getting more serious. The story goes into really weird places, but it explores a lot of the darker areas a relationship can go to, and it’s quite interesting. And, if you’re go the right path, you even get a relatively happy ending. And while you’re working towards that ending you get one of the best horror puzzle games I’ve ever played, so it’s a win/win right?

Nisekoi (Anime)

Nisekoi is about two children forced to be in a fake relationship by their parents in order to avoid a gang war… yes it’s a strange premise. But watching these two live their lives and gradually get to know each other over time is charming and silly. And while the ending of this show certainly could have been done better, the anime itself is simply hilarious.

My wife and I aren’t feeling well today, and as I mentioned above – tomorrow is our anniversary, so today we’re just planning to rest (now that this is written) and tomorrow we have other plans so my next post will likely be on Wednesday or Thursday. Hope you enjoy these recommendations, and as always – leave your own recommendations in the comment below! And if you’re looking to get in touch, I recently updated my ‘about’ page with a list of ways you can get a hold of me – from e-mail and twitter to various in-game identities for different gaming services.
