Weekly Recommendations – Sequel Preparation!

As you may have noticed, there were quite a few second seasons and sequels in my most anticipated for the year… so this week’s recommendations are going to focused on the games and shows you should be watching to get up to speed for this year’s best upcoming titles.

Fate/Zero (anime)

Both the third season of Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya and the second season of Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works has been confirmed for later this year… and, in addition to watching the first seasons of both shows, I also strongly recommend watching Fate/Zero. I had a bit of a mixed appreciation for Zero but in the end, I did enjoy my time with it. More importantly though, a lot of little ties from that prequel story are carried forward into these series and there are a lot of references you’ll be missing if you aren’t familiar with Fate/Zero, more so in Stay Night than in Prisma Illya since Prisma is more of an alternate universe than a direct sequel.

Persona 4: The Golden (game)

I’m not going to claim that the Persona series is one that requires foreknowledge to appreciate, but with Persona 5 coming out this year, you might want to get your Atlus JRPG on in preparation. And Persona 4 is a fantastic way to do this – not only is it one of the best JRPGs of all time, but it’s ‘The Golden’ remake brings it forward with additional polish and quality of life improvements. And if you don’t want to use a handheld, don’t worry – the PS TV runs P4G like a dream according to all reports so you can play it on a big tv too!

Nisekoi (anime)

Nisekoi is a series I wasn’t certain we’d see a second season for… but now that it’s confirmed, I am really thrilled to get a second chance to experience this pseudo-romantic comedy. It was one of the funniest shows I’ve seen in ages, and if you haven’t given yourself the opportunity to enjoy it, what are you waiting for? Now’s your chance, go watch Nisekoi to prepare for its second season which should be arriving later this year.
