Blade’s Edge Update – December

Well… Winter’s here. And it hit suddenly, and with a vengeance. We here in Winnipeg went from dry and +4 to a foot of snow and -11 in 48 hours. Fortunately it’s warmed up a bit since then, but it doesn’t look like it’ll last much longer.

But that’s enough about such subjects… it’s the Christmas season. It’s the end of the year. And I’ve just finished recovering from my amazing Streamaversary Selubration. So let’s get right into this!

November was crazy. With my new job, I didn’t have as much time to write as I’d like, but we still had some good stuff to talk about. We finished off the summer anime review blitz with a bang, cracking out the last few reviews and ending on a high note with Monster Musume. The summer anime really impressed me, and fall seems to be going pretty well so far. If you’d like to see a few of the shows I’m watching right now, check out my First Impressions post. Additionally, check out my review of StarCraft 2’s final expansion: Legacy of the Void.

December is going to be a fairly quiet month for game releases, which – in a way – is kind of fortunate. I’m still playing through October and November’s many JRPG releases – Tales of Zestiria, Disgaea 5, Sword Art Online: Lost Song, and Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. Additionally, I haven’t even had a chance to look at some of the other releases I’ve wanted to, including Dragon Fin Soup, Overlord: Fellowship of Evil, Might and Magic Heroes 7 and others. Hopefully this quiet month will give me the opportunity to crawl my way through some of these games. Well, quiet except for XSeed who is dropping a rather large bomb on us right before Christmas.

As far as streaming goes, my plan is to finish Tales of Zestiria and then go full on into Legend of Heroes. We’ve got Trails in the Sky on the backburner and Trails of Cold Steel upcoming, so we know what our next couple months are going to be spent on, don’t we? My Friday night multiplayer ‘Gamer’s Night In’ streams will be continuing, with the StarCraft 2 Co-Op missions joining in on the fun too from time to time. SRPG Sundays will continue to be Disgaea 5 for the foreseeable future, even after I finish the game’s story. I’m just having too much fun with it, to be honest.

But the big news is the announcement of this month’s two stream specials! First of all, I’ll be doing a Saturday Selubration on December 12th – 1 week from today! Games will be determined by this strawpoll. Also, on the Monday following Christmas (December 28th) – which happens to be a holiday up here thanks to Boxing Day (I have to confirm my work is closed so I’ll update this post if this changes) – I’m going to be streaming all day playing Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. (Edited: Apparently my work doesn’t close for that day, finally got confirmation of that definitively, so I’ll probably do the stream I’d planned on Sunday in stead – Dec 27. I’ll tweet out once I’ve confirmed everything)

Additionally, December marks the end of the fall anime season. As shows reach their conclusion, I’ll be starting my fall anime review blitz, which should mean at least a couple of reviews by the end of this month. As a final note, I also am working on a post I hope you guys will enjoy, that I’ve been taking a huge trip down memory lane to revisit some fond times with one of the most impactful games on my life. Keep an eye out for that in the coming week or so.

For those of you wondering about the year-end wrap-up lists, they will still be happening, but I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about how best to do them. For anime, I’m going to stick with the format that has been working for the past year or so. By which I mean that I’ll do ‘best of’ sets every two seasons for winter/spring and summer/fall. Expect that probably in February. For gaming, my plan is once I’m done reviewing all the games I plan to play from the year, I’ll tackle the best of. I am hoping that will lead to January or February as well, and if that works out pretty well I’ll do that going forward.

So that’s December for you, I hope you’re as excited as I am to get into it!
