The Blade’s Edge – June 2016 Update

It’s crazy. The days and weeks have flown by. Between a short-notice vacation to Vancouver (pictures to follow soon), an amazing Selubration, a plethora of game releases, and the anime season continuing strong… I’ve just barely managed to keep afloat among all of the awesomeness that happened this past month.

We finished the last of the Winter 2016 anime reviews with Myriad Colours Phantom World and played 4 separate games, including both Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and Clank. We are also continuing the Shadow’s Sixty, and are currently halfway through the countdown of the best games I’ve ever played. Wanting to see whether your favourite has made the cut yet? Check out the list as it continues to develop.

Speaking of ‘the list’, there will be at least one more entry in the list later this month. I’m aiming to get one entry written for you all approximately every 2 weeks, so it is possible that we may see 2 entries during June. This month also marks the start of the summer of JRPGs we’ve got going on. All summer there will be practically non-stop gaming releases to keep us occupied. Japan, in particular, seems out to kill us by draining our wallets and stealing our free time over the next few months.

It starts off next week with Atelier Sophie, which I will be playing once its available and reviewing immediately afterwards. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, the PS4 remastering of the classic PS2 sidescrolling action RPG Odin Sphere, will also be landing on the same day. Then, since those two games are both timehogs, Japan was benevolent enough to skip a week before dropping Grand Kingdom, Mighty No 9, and Umbrella Corps on the 21st. We’ll certainly be playing Mighty No 9 to see if the wait is worth it, but we may have to wait on Grand Kingdom as the 28th sees Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness dropping into our laps. Alongside that, we’ll also have God Eater Resurrection and 7 Days to Die.

I don’t necessarily expect to get to more than Atelier Sophie and Mighty No 9 this month, but we’ll see what else we can fit in. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is so close to the end of the month that I don’t see myself finishing it this month, but it is absolutely high on my priority list to play. I’d love to fit in some Grand Kingdom and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir as well, as I can. As far as my stream goes, Atelier Sophie is a definite yes, as is Star Ocean. The rest, we’ll have to see. Sadly, July does not offer any reprieve but we’ll talk more about that next month.

Since most of this gaming content will be coming later in the month, we’ll have a bit of a lull in the next week or two. During that time, I have a few plans. First of all, later this week I’ll be doing a mid-season preview, of sorts, to show off the shows I’m watching and loving from this anime season. I have a few other ideas I’ve been toying around with that I may do early on this month. The final thing I wanted to mention is that we’ve got just about a month until the Spring season starts wrapping up for anime. As that happens, I’ll get started on the reviews right away to see how quickly we can get that out. We’ll see if that’s at the end of this month or the beginning of the next.
