The anticipation is building… we’re on the second last entry of the Shadow’s Sixty! This time we’ll cover rank 12 through 7. With this list we are finally entering into the true best games I’ve ever played. What genres will we see here? What games? Will your favourite make the cut for this list? If you’ve been following along, will your guesses match the reality?
These are all games that have left a lasting impression on me… some new, some not so new. Some of these games shaped my love of gaming, others made me lifetime fans of certain worlds. These games set the bar by which all others are judged, and it is my pleasure to give you your first glimpse into the top 10 today. I know some of you have been (im)patiently waiting for this day, so I won’t make you wait any longer.
It’s a bit late, I know… but Legend of Heroes games take a long time to complete, and deserve the time they take. Now that we’ve finished reviewing Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter, it’s time to wrap up 2015 by showing off the overall best games of the year.
This was actually one of the easiest lists I’ve ever created because, to be frank, there really were only 6 games that turned out well enough last year to rank from among those that I was interested in. I only played around a dozen new games last year, and of those, nearly half were pretty big disappointments. Now, this may make you wonder about the quality of the games on this list here… but have no fear, nearly all of these games are contenders for the Shadow’s Sixty so while we may be lacking in quantity, we were certainly not lacking in quality.
I know his story… I know all their stories
Hello! It’s finally time. I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time. Over the course of the next several months, we’ll be gradually counting down my favourite games ever. Of course, there has to be a cut off, so I’ve selected the end of 2015. Any games that came out during 2015 or earlier are eligible for this list. This gives us ~30 years of gaming to play with, so this was an incredibly hard list to create, and has taken me weeks of deliberating to narrow it down to just 60.
We’ve got games of nearly every genre here, including some genres I don’t often play anymore. We’ve got old games, new games, and everything in between. Obviously, I’m just one man… I haven’t played every game, so I apologize if there are any games you really loved that got left off because of that. One notable game in that category is Undertale which I suspect I would have loved had I had the time to play it, given what I’ve seen of the game.
Each entry into this countdown will cover 6 games as we build towards the coveted Top 6 games of all time, according to me. Hope you enjoy this list, and if you have any questions about why I’ve placed things where they are, or if you disagree with me… please, feel free to comment!
StarCraft 2’s final chapter is upon is with Legacy of the Void. After the first two chapters focused almost entirely on Kerrigan – first on de-zergifying her and then on re-zergifying her – Legacy of the Void takes a different direction and focuses on a race that isn’t Kerrigan: The Protoss! But, all jokes aside, I have been waiting a long time for this so I am very glad to be writing this now.
This review is going to focus on the Co-Op Missions and the Campaigns – both the core and the epilogue – as I am not really interested in the competitive side, save as a spectator.
I know his story… I know all their stories
Last month I helped you pass the time until we got to a month that would have more to do… this month, we’re going to go a bit more focused on that. This month I’d like to give you the best short scope games and anime, the type you can load up and play when you have a few minutes waiting in line for that panel to open its doors… or watch while you sit and eat those delicious convention centre hot dogs(/sarcasm).
So, due to various issues… the Monthly Recommendations are going to be timed a little weird this month. The next week of recommendations are going to be going up on Friday of next week in the morning – to help us all prepare for Ai-Kon. After that, the final week will release on the 27th. Sorry this month has fewer recommendations than normal, life just hit me hard this past week. But hopefully we’ll be back on schedule now.
